Good game. Didn't last long though

I'm no great completer of games. I'll hold my hand up and say that now. Normally, I get sidetracked and lose interest in games entirely. That I completed this one is more down to the fact that I put it into my disc tray at about 1 in the afternoon a few months back and by half past four I was pulling it out again having completed the game.

You see, that's the only real problem with Starfighter. It just isn't big enough. Each of the game's missions is too short for my liking, with only the last couple really challenging me to my extremes, bar one or two mid-game missions.

However, that isn't to say that I didn't enjoy the game thoroughly. I did. I haven't enjoyed a game more than this in a long time, with its thrill-a-minute gameplay and excellent handling. The action can get tense and exciting, and often it's only skill and reactions that save you and your N-1 from fiery death. It is addictive to the extreme, and once you've picked it up, you'll be unable to put it down until you finish it (which is about 3 or 4 hours, unfortunately).

Graphically, the game still impresses. The explosions that take place are excellent, with plenty of colour and flair. Surfaces are seamless, and framerates rarely drop below the norm, making for a smooth experience. The sound, too, is excellent, with a great soundtrack backed up by good sound effects. The Star Wars sheen is all present and correct.

However, if you expect a game with length, you're looking in the wrong place; whilst it has replayability and bonus missions, the main story's length disappoints, as it had the potential to be more than it was. However, take nothing from the gameplay, which makes the game into an enjoyable experience which is well worth playing. It's worth looking in bargain bins at game shops: my copy set me back just £7 new.
