This game brings with it an entirely new respect for troopers.

Talk about a bunch of champs; in Republic Commando the player takes the part of Delta three-eight, a commander of a small elite clone trooper group. The game is centered mostly around maneuvers with this group in a very interesting new take on the Star Wars universe.

For the majority of the Star Wars games, the perspective has been from pretty high up, be it jedi or bounty hunter or sith lord. However, Republic Commando takes a gritty and gory soldier's view into account and it shows in the elements of this game.

The environments and character modeling are absolutely amazing, and the evidence of a hard fought war is everywhere from scorch marks on the ground to beat up trooper armor.

The soundtrack is familiar and relatively classic Star Wars music, with some additions. However the real treat in the sound comes from the sound effects. It's obvious a lot of work was put into making it very immersive and it works magically, and combined with the in-helmet view, the game goes a long way to making you feel like you are really there.

The gameplay mechanics are very smooth, and even though this isn't a "new" game, the movements of your team are very realistic and professional, giving them a real feel of an elite unit.

Bottom line; this game is incredibly well made. It is relatively short, but for $10 now, this game is more than worth it. Heavy handed action from the drop-point all the way to the end will immerse you in a soldier's-eye view of the Star Wars galaxy that you are not likely to soon forget.
