A game that could have been great, but is a failure in every sense of the word.

I like reviewing bad games. Not necessarily playing them, mind. But rather, speaking of games in such an ill fashion. It's something I don't get to excercise enough, so when it does happen, I'd like to take my name and drag the game through the mud. And you may just feel like doing the same after playing this, as it is one of the worst Star Wars games ever concieved. The idea behind the game is solid enough though. Taking a well known cast of characters, and putting them in a one on one fighting ground probably sounded good on paper. The idea of duelling lightsabers, shooting lasers and using the force all sound great, but the execution for such a daunting task is severly underwhelming. Star Wars have never been in a fighter before, and it is now evident to see why. Characters don't match up well against one another. While decidedly cool duelling Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, a match between Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett is less balanced. Some characters have such devestatingly powerful moves as well, that the game consistently punishes you for choosing someone less popular. Pre-existing music and effects all sound great, but without any speech, nor any original music or effects, the music side is underwhelming. While we can hear that classic soundtrack play, we should deserve better than something thrown together. The Sound Department should feel ashamed, there is little to get excited over. Character models are a big gripe. Lucasarts have managed everyone to look like their identity, yet there us a lot of uneven lines, and the action is nowehere near smooth. In fact, the game moves deadly slow, I was yawning in between attacks. However, on a happy note, the backgrounds look suprisingly good, and there is a fair bit of motion in them as well, so it's not all static. However, the impression on a whole I get from the graphics is one that has ben hobbled together without to much effort and then thrust to retail as quickly as possible. Coinciding with the new cinematic release of the Original Trilogy, Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi just feels rushed. The storyline is thrown together at the last minute, with all the originality of a Master of Teras Kasi sent to eliminate the highest ranking Republic Soldiers. How this lends to a fighting game, I dont know, but there it is. Overall, I feel very poorly to this game. Gameplay, graphics and sound all get a thumbs down from me. If this had the attention it deserved, it may have turned into a competent fighter, but with plenty of better competition out there, why would you get this instead? Whatever you do, don't buy this game.
