If you can get past the horrible graphics and sound Dark Forces is a great shooter

User Rating: 8.4 | Star Wars: Dark Forces PS
Star Wars: Dark Forces is a classic shooter and was probably the first shooter I ever played. It has Doom style gameplay set in the Star Wars universe. The storyline is okay but not fantastic: You play as Kyle Katarn who is trying to stop the Empire from building Dark Soldiers. Dark Soldiers are super powerful soldiers capable of mass destruction. If they aren't stopped it could mean the end of the Rebels.

The Gameplay is almost exactly like Doom only in Doom you had to find a lot of key card luckily on Dark Forces you don't have to do that but you have to take a key from officers occasionally. The single player mode which is sadly the only mode has thirteen missions and each mission is somewhat long. But Dark Forces is shorter then most games that were out at this time. The controls are annoying mostly because they are different from most other shooters. Instead of the X button or R1 being fire they put that on the Square button which feels weird. The level design is good all of the levels are cool but require some backtracking.

Now onto the bad part of Star Wars: Dark Forces which is the graphics and sound. The graphics are just terrible the backgrounds are ugly. The characters look like cardboard cutout pasted onto the levels. The sound is a little better then the graphics are but still are terrible. The sound effects stink and the rest of the sound isn't very good. Star Wars: Dark Forces is a good game but would've been better with the addition of a multiplayer mode and a longer single player mode.
