Good additions, strange omissions (Online multiplayer mode review)

User Rating: 6 | Star Wars Battlefront II PS4
I’ll just say that I’m a big Star Wars fan. I got all the movies and I love the games that've came out over the years. This review is for the game, microtransactions are irrelevant to my review. I initially purchased Battlefront (2015) back when it was released and I must say that Battlefront II (2017) feels very similar to what I felt back then. DICE and EA did a lot to improve on the mistakes presented by the first battlefront but I’ve noticed a lot of omitted content which the first one offered a solid basis for. The greatest addition I’ve recognized so far is the inclusion of a lot more maps than originally present in the first DICE Battlefront, and thanks to continued improvements with technology, it looks even better than the first battlefront. Graphics look spectacular and there is plenty of pretty things fans and players alike will notice in the game world. Strangely missing from these large amounts of detailed maps, is the lack of modes to play on them currently. Coming from DICE Battlefront 1, I feel that a lot of modes which highlighted the original by DICE are crippling this installment with its lack of those game modes. For instance, the classic game mode “walker assault” which is theoretically doable in the Prequel universe as well is missing from the game entirely. Other mode favorites such as sabotage, drop zone and cargo are completely absent from the online mode selection menu. Another missing omission is the lack of map selection. I’ve only played on a small handful of maps, and without googling I wouldn't have known that there are 11 wonderful planet levels to explore. This game otherwise plays quite well. A lot of content feels balanced. The crate soldier unlocking system feels strange, but once it is fully understood, it isn’t difficult to control which direction you level up your classes. The lack of online game modes is what really hurts this title in my view. Online gameplay becomes repetitive as I feel I play the same maps over and over with only 5 game modes to choose from. Thankfully I’m patient and I’m willing to wait until the DLC, which is promised to be free, could bring new modes, maps and more hero characters into the current selection. As my title states. They improved with some additions, got worse by leaving out others. Otherwise it’s an alright Star Wars based shooter with some strategic elements in terms of class selection.
