not the universe they say it is at all

The universe of Star Trek has made us think of going to the stars for ages. The game ST Online, was supposed to carry on the feeling and get us hooked on being a star fleet officer and making our ship the best in the fleet! It fails miserably.

At first we are told that the universe is facing a new war, a war so terrible that even an ensign can command if they have the skills and attitude to make it work. Then after just a few missions, we see that its not so. The universe goes on as science missions become as needed as the war effort, and instead of pulling every ship back to fight the war, they send people out to scan anomalies, and asteroids and planets.

OK, looking for new allies during a war...very important, but do you have time to seek out space anomalies for the sheer science of it when people are getting ambushed in a sector next door? Not likely.Star Trek Online tries too hard to make everyone happy, and during a terrible war, people are anything but happy. They even throw balance to the wind and let any ship the player is in become next to impregnable. Taking a small starter ship and allowing it to attack and kill 5 of the same size, then a minute later 5 more and then another minute cruisers and battleships...ridiculous.Want to save this game? Balance my friend balance, make people earn their way and give them a sense of accomplishment. Having Vulcans standing around bragging you up as you walk by is cheap theatrics, and not worthy of the ST name. If your trying to get a lot of shallow kids in and out quickly, making you the Walmart of games, you might have succeeded, since even kids get bored without a challenge, so heres hoping that you learn sooner rather than later, or this game wont last.
