Not bad, but not the best. Read on to find out why.
Please ignore the story line. It ruins everything that is star trek, but it is only a game and so it doesn't matter. It is still fun.
I have the Wii version which is probably the better version you can get, The graphics are nice enough but a bit blocky. The problem is that if there is too much going on in a battle, the game tends to lag, and has even stalled! But as long as you save often and don't get too upset by the lag, you can get past that.
There are only really two options to the game, play against the other races for galactic control or play a skirmish game set in one system.
The controls on the game work very well, and are easy to use and master. One nice feature of the game is the ability to watch the battle happen, or actually control it yourself. When you watch it you get a 2d screen showing the action as the computer thinks it might logically go. If you have more ships, you will probably win, but dont always
In the playable version you zoom around defying the odds and have you use your own judgements on what to do and attack first, and can win or loose that way.
You get special weapons which can protect or damage a star system, and you can build research or income factories to increase what you are learning or the money you get each round for new ships and bases etc.
The Strategic element to the game has been done very well. you do have to think and plan ahead which is nice for a game that is so cheep.
The voice acting is good but quickly becomes repetitive and boring.
In summery: It is a well rounded game for the price and type that it is. Its worth getting to kill a couple of hours or if your a star trek fan, but otherwise if you don't like this sort of game, it wont change your mind on them.
