Just because it's a remake of a ps1 game that doesn't mean it's bad.

To start off, if you played star ocean 3, then don't expect this game to be exactly the same. You get random encounters on the world map and in caves and dungeons. You still have special arts and skills but symbology isn't really stretched that much, but it's there. The graphics aren't that great but that fact isn't really that bothersome so don't let that stop you from buying this game. The story does start off slow and for the first hour or two you'll think "why did I buy this game?" The story does pick up though and it's not great, but it's not terrible. There are a lot of optional characters so your team can always be personalized. The battles are fun but they can get to be repetitive since all you have to do is mash the x button reapeatedly.
All in all Star Ocean: First Departure is a good game that doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.
