Assault is Namco's horrible attempt to recreate Star Fox. It's obvious to see that this can be quite a forgettable game.

User Rating: 6.7 | Star Fox: Assault GC
Ever Since Star Fox 64 came out, i was hyped about it's series. It was so well done for its time. Voice-overs in 1997 were hard to find back in that time. But now we're in the age of 64-bit computing. Starfox Adventures has lived up to its name by being an extremely well made game. Not just graphically, but audio-wise. Adventures was a cheap version of Zelda but it was original to call it a Starfox game. Now that Assult came in, I am horrified. One, Namco is not a Nintendo only party. Namco makes games for Xbox and PS2. So what in their right minds would make a company that has no experience with Nintendo's Star Fox, recreate it? It's illogical and downright stupid. Namco shows its inability to create a good Nintendo Trademark game. Graphics: 8 The graphics are the best thing in this game. It is impressive with texture shading and cool anti-aliasing 3-D models and environments. The effects are great as well. with Shading, fog, laser, and nice lighting effects, it's definitely a must-see. Sound: 5 Jesus. The sound is outrageously cheesy. It sounded as if Namco downloaded bits and clips off N64 Starfox and pasted it on this game. The voice overs sound like a B rated Sci-Fi movie. "Hark! There is a space ship landing on the galaxy of Zarkon 5!" That kinda crap is nonsense. And it's even worse on how they say it. The lasers are good looking and bad sounding. It sounds like you're playing laser tag. Gameplay: 6 This game is quite fun... for a while. Levels get repititive and only half the game is actually in air. The Ground levels are not to shabby, but it's bad enough to see unrealistic movements on Fox and is actually quite hard to control. If this game was on Air full-time, I'd have given it a much better rating, but the ground missions are what killed it. It's still can be fun at a certain climax in the game (if there is any at all). But it's a beast to control Fox. The Arwing is sooo much better to control and has more solid gameplay. Multiplayer is not even that good. It's a dumbed down version of vehicle combat in Halo. Value: 7 For a game like this, the overal game is "okay." Although it has its flaws, I'd still buy it. But I'd only buy it for no more than 40 dollars on this game. Overall This game is okay. Not good at all. But not too bad either. It's a bad version of Starfox, but it's better than a lot of games you'd buy. Namco just messed Nintendo's reputation for Starfox big time. The only memory you'll get out of this game is that how badly Namco failed to recreate the Starfox legacy.
