SSX 3 is one of those games which makes you sit back and think…. WOW! But what is it that makes this game stand high above its predecessor, SSX TRICKY?
The answer is with the conquer the mountain mode, where the mountain is set into 3 peaks. Your task is to win each set of tasks on the 3 peaks, which get harder as you move up the mountain. The events range from standard racing or freestyles, to BIG! Challenges where you are given time-limited or stunt objectives to make your life on the mountain that little bit more exciting.
You earn money from these events which you can buy more wacky stunts to pull off, as well as clothes, boards and build up your characters stats; which you can do through the lounge.
One of the best things about the game is the sense of freedom. This is the Grand Theft auto of Snowboarding games. You can take a cable car or helicopter to the top of the mountain, and then you’re by yourself to find the event of your choice. This is much cleaner then the menu way of choosing your race and being there automatically (even though this option is still available)
This really gives you the feeling that you ARE on a real mountain.
Despite the exaggerated designs of the courses, they have been enhanced in such a way as that they do resemble real slopes. Where other snow-board games lose their sense of illusion because of restricted courses, SSX 3 exploring style keeps the Illusion up. Trees, bushes and rocks are scattered all along the mountain, and the ever-changing terrain, it is truly the next best thing to being on Mount Everest.
Even more amazingly, while racing trees can fall in front of you, icicles drop from cave roofs and you can be chased by avalanches. The bits of the game where these are featured are breathtaking, something you can only really appreciate while playing the game.
Combine this with the luscious slopes, fantastic backgrounds and impressive weather effects and these are truly the best slopes ever!
By mastering the courses and getting your trick bar full, you will be able to perform Uber tricks. These are truly insane (some of the heights may make you wet yourself!). You can do even more crazy spins and backflips then normal tricks, while racking up major points. AND they can even be performed during grinds.
By mastering this, you will be King of the Mountain. With practice you will learn to pull off even more crazy tricks. This with your fully skilled up boarders, will make the game totally different from the first time you played it.
SSX 3 is better in every way then SSX tricky. SSX 3 is much more fun, easier to control and, overall, much more rewarding
