Tactical espionage, the old-school way.

Spy vs. Spy is an early strategy game featuring Black Spy and White Spy (based on their apparel), either of which are playable. The goal is to kill your opponent with booby traps as many times as possible, while collecting all the items needed to exit the game before time runs out. When a spy is killed they drop all their items, and are forced to sit out of the game for a few moments while their timer is depleted at a faster rate.

The game takes place in an embassy containing a series of interconnected rooms laid out on a grid pattern. Higher levels have more rooms and a larger play area. Due to the graphics of the time, the rooms all look fairly alike, which can lead to some confusion and disorientation. Hand-to-hand combat is an option when the spies meet in the same room. But most of the aggression is more strategic, the main methods of attacks are traps the spies can place on the furniture and doors of the embassy. These traps are triggered when a spy searches a piece of furniture for an item, or opens a booby trapped door, resulting in a cartoon style animation showing the subject being blown up, zapped with electricity, etc and floating up to heaven as an angel. You can also set off your own trap and kill yourself if you're careless or forget where you set a trap.
