Spore Creature Creator is a great game, even if it is just a part of the full Spore game.
As the title suggests you make creatures in this game that are/will be usable in the full version of Spore. Creating creatures in this game can be very simple or absurdly difficult. The came isn't designed to make humanoid creatures of any type though it is possible with a lot of hard work, but the results will be a creature that moves very strangely due to the nature of the parts you have to use. The creation process is basically mold a ball of clay, drag and drop creature parts, adjust them as necessary, then paint them. And by paint, you almost literally do have to paint them. The patterns you can use makes it hard to color the creature exactly as you want because it is designed to make creatures that look vaguely (and I mean very vaguely) like mutated real world animals.
The Graphics are pretty good although often it takes a few seconds to fully render a model and the creatures don't really have textures, they just skin the creature with a pattern that looks like a texture.
The sound is... well, there isn't much sound, but what there is fits the game's style and should be satisfying enough for most people.
Overall, I would say that if you are patient (which you shouldn't need to be now that the release of Spore is so close) you should just wait for the full game to be released, unless you would rather just making things rather than playing with them.
