One for the kids.

After playing the great Spider-Man Web of Shadows, I decided to check out some Spider-Man games I've previously missed. "Friend or Foe" is a beat-em up through and through. Swinging is only there because...well, it pretty much has to. It's a Spider-Man game right? You just run around fighting enemies and bosses, that's all there is to it. So what's unique about this game, what sets it apart from all the other beat-em ups out there? A few things. It's unapologetically geared towards kids, it's easy to get into, easy controls, easy to play, easy bosses, easy everything. The cartoony style is also cool and appealing.

You play as Spider-Man, and the thing about this game is that you have to team up with other Marvel heroes and villains. Kinda like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. But only one character can be there to assist you. Another player can jump in at any time in the co-op mode. And there's also a versus mode where you fight in arenas you've unlocked in the story missions. Speaking of story, it's not very good. You can upgrade Spider-Man's and his sidekicks abilites. This is another reason to go back. Most likely you'll only max out Spider-Man's and two of his sidekicks abilites after completing the game once. Controls are easy, and motion controls are only used for switching characters and pulling off fancy grab maneuvers. Those manuevers however, can also be performed by button presses.

The game is good fun, before repetition sets in, and that happens faster than I would've liked. But again, kids are probably gonna like it.
