A trip back to the nineties without the need to own a glowstick or a copy of Bryan Adams' greatest hits!

Let's get one thing clear - I LOVED Speedball 2 when it originally came out on the Amiga. Yes, that does make me an old fart and no, you can't have my last Werther's Original. I'm still amazed by the GS staff's attitudes that the game is hard to understand. It's about a million times simpler than American Football. Quite simply, the game is a team-based future sport on a field with a goal at each end. Pass the ball between your teammates and throw the ball into the goal to score points -easy!

Of course, the game IS set on a giant pinball table and so there are 'score multipliers' and additional ways to grab points which include KO-ing a player on the opposing team! that's right baby, it's brutal out there and since the ball is made of metal, it probably hurts quite a bit when it bounces off your nose.

The game hasn't changes much since its original release. Even the slightly smoother frame-rate and graphical updates do little to hide the fact that this game is ever-so-slightly 'ancient' but, to be honest, it's STILL a huge amount of fun to play!

Like many older games, Speedball requires some very fast reactions and you'll probably be reaching for the ice-bucket to rest your hands in after a long session of play. Overall, I found myself playing this game for about two hours straight when i purchased it and I think it falls into the category of 'great in-between-meals-game' -the sort of thing you can pick up and play while waiting for the next big release. Recommended to anyone who likes nostalgia, rollerball or fast-paced button mashers!
