Me Iz Vary Confused

To start off I've never played any other games in this series and I don't own any fighting games at all (other than Smash Bros.) So if you don't agree with my review please disregard it.

When you start up SCIV you'll notice that the presentation is top notch from the gorgeous visuals and great sound design, and I thought that this would be a fun title when I saw its large and varied character roster. So what's my beef with this game?
It's the fact that nowhere is it ever properly explained how to play the game It never explains the Soul Gague or even the controls to you it just assumes you know how to play. So what did I do I tried it got murdered in multiplayer and never played again.

So I'm sorry if you like this game because its not a bad game I just truly have no idea how to play it.
