Not the Sonic Everybody Remembers, but Still Great!

Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Master System is not the same experience as Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis. This game was not a port, it was a totally different game made with the 8-bit hardware in mind. While Sonic on the Genesis game is pretty well known for his speed...he probably would have been too fast for 8-bits anyways. In this Master System game, Sonic resembles something closer to a traditional platformer. This game better rewards patience and precision than speed. That being said, just because Sonic isn't as speedy here as we have come to expect, that doesn't make for a bad game at all. Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System gets all the care and polish he deserves and the result really is one of the best platformers on the system. This game looks great, sounds amazing, and controls well. Some of the Sonic tropes are here too from ring collecting to Robotnik bashing...and, best of all, just being plain fun to play. Overall, I think this is a must play for any Master System fan, and I'd also recommend it to Sonic fans in general with that clear warning that this isn't going to have the same feel as a usual Sonic title, but is quality nonetheless.
