This game isn't up to par with the older Sonic games like Sonic 3 and Knuckles or Sonic 1.

All franchises are supposed to have their good times and bad times. For the Sonic series however, it seems to be more bad times than good. The Sonic games started with Sonic 1 and then after Sonic 3 and Knuckles and there hasn't been a direct sequel to that for 16 years. Then came Sonic 4, a direct sequel to the game, but it didn't meet people's expectations. Here's why:

the good parts of the game include:

The environments which let you gain a ton of speed (especially Casino Street Zone)

The music

The new function of the Homing Attack which was a first for Sonic 2D games

The platforming is great

But the flaws of this game include:

Sonic feels slower in this game

Certain bosses are annoying to defeat

The choice of graphics style in the iPhone/iPod versions (By the way Sega, if i'm playing an iOS game, I don't want the graphics to look like i'm playing a DS game, OKAY??? you might as well released this on DS!!)

The special stages are ANNOYING AS HELL!!!!

Overall, I don't think this game does not meet the standards of the older Sonic games which is a shame because it could have been better with a little more effort.
