Oh the Humanity!

I had both of the sonic adventure games for dreamcast and loved them. I recall them getting reasonable good reviews too. So when I got this game I thought I should experience more of the same. Well, at the very least the graphics were about the same. I don't know if that speaks well for the dreamcast and its capabilities or just how poorly this game was coded. It looks like a previous gen console game. There are framerate issues, pop in issues, jagged edges, and just plain old uninspired visuals. And sadly I could have put up with bad visuals if the game was as fun to play as sonic adventure one on dreamcast had been, but it was not to be. The level designs were tired and didn't excite in any way. The controls were ridiculously unresponsive(I never knew if sonic was actually going to do what I had commanded). The game was filled with crazy glitches, such as sonic getting stuck in some sort of game matrix in which he was trapped in a nether region where movement was impossible. While you are fighting with the controls you are also doing battle on another front: contending with the absurd camera. The camera could not keep up with the action so be prepared for repeated cheap deaths because you can't tell what the heck is going on. At least they tried to incorporate a story, but lets face it this is sonic so who cares? The music was still pretty good and the voice acting was ok(same voices as previous games if I'm not mistaken). There's just not much to recommend this game on though. Verdict: Buy a dreamcast and play sonic adventure. Stay away from this train wreck!
