Some games should just never be ported...

User Rating: 4.5 | Sonic the Fighters PS3
Oh boy, where do I begin. The dated visuals, the underwhelming combat, or complete lack of storytelling.

Well, some good things about this game: It will be the fastest and easiest 100% (trophies) you'll get for the time being. Yup, even faster than Frogger Returns, which was a more enjoyable game btw. The roster was impressive: it was neat being about to use cool looking characters like Nac the Weasal & Espio the Chameleon and the game even managed to introduce some new characters to the Sonic franchise. However, none of these things can rescue this game from its mundane and underwhelming gameplay. Granted that its from a previous generation gaming...even back then I would have said Sega did not try when making this game. It's like they made a really generic fighting game, slapped some Sonic character on and expected it to sell. There's such a lack of deversity in each fighter's move set, where I honestly can't tell you who's special move is who's. I mean you have all your basic fighting modes (single player and multiplayer) but nothing that holds your attention to have you coming back for more.

Sonic the Fighters makes zero attempt at encouraging multiple playthroughs within its single player modes. It never feels like an individual experience regardless of who you beat the game with, story or gameplay wise. The game ends the same way no matter who you play through it with.

My Breakdown:

What's Good:

- Easiest 12 trophies that you'll probably ever get
- Nice roster of characters for Sonic fans
- Rings coming out of fighters instead of blood is kind of cool
- Environments and music consistent to the Sonic series

What's Not-So-Good:

- No middle ground

What's Bad:

- Terrible visuals
- Terrible story telling
- Uninspired gameplay
- Lack of diversity in most aspects in the game

In all, I have no clue as to why Sega ported this game besides it being a potential shameless cash grab. Stay away from this at all costs!
