I've been with the sonic franchise since Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released, and honestly my experience has been filled with ups and downs like many Sonic fans. The rise of lyric isn't the next sonic adventure, and honestly I think Sega did a pretty swell job trying to leave the past where it belongs. For those of you looking for the next Sonic game with a pretty traditional storyline (chaos emeralds are the main plot point) this game is not for you. This game is for Sonic fans who have an open mind regarded the beloved blue blur and his companions. It plays like a Jak and Daxter game with clear references to Ratchet and Clank, but it's with the Sonic gang we all love. The game of course has it's share of flaws, those being its frame rate as well as minor glitches, but it doesn't really take away from the overall feel of the game. The fights start out sluggish, but become far more interesting overtime, and the graphics aren't necessarily the best the wii u could dish out, but the environments are still quite lovely and still live up to the HD standard. The story is well worth it, and the characters even more so. I actually found myself laughing at some of the childish humor, when I bought this game expecting it to be pretty much god awful. It was a pleasant surprise. If you enjoy fun platforming mechanics mixed with some button mashing, you will enjoy this game. It's a new twist.
