Sonic Adventure is my personal favourite Sonic game ever. It has great varied game play. A must own for any platform game fan. This was Sega's first attempt at creating a true 3D Sonic game; and they really outdid themselves.

The story goes that Eggman releases a liquid life form known as Chaos - his intentions are to give him the seven Chaos Emeralds to increase his strength and destroy the city of Station Square and build his own city. Sonic of course will not stand for this so the great adventure for the Chaos Emeralds. There are six characters and their stories all intertwine, playing them all is the only way to figure out the whole story.

The six playable characters are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big the Cat and E102 Gamma. Sonic has 3D versions of standard Sonic game play. Get to the end of the level as you run at super speed through loops and picking up rings as you go. The addition of the homing attack revolutionised the game play. Some levels have gimmicks to add variety and help them feel unique such as snow boarding sections or playing with pinball machines. Tails has to race Sonic through a certain segment of the level. Knuckles has to find three fragments of the Master Emerald using a radar. Amy has to get to the end of the level whilst evading a robot known as Zero. Big's gameplay is the game's only downfall. All he does is fish for his friend Froggy and E102's stages involve getting from point A to B whilst locking on to and shooting as many enemies as possible, his levels are timed and shooting enemies will increase your time limit.

The levels and game's events are accessible through the Adventure Fileds, these are quiet fun to just play around in. There is also something called a Chao garden where you look after virtual pets called Chao. You can give them animals from levels to increase their stats and enter them in races.

Graphically for DreamCast the graphics are pretty impressive. The CG cutscenes are very good for the time the game was released.

The game's soundtrack is one of the best in the Sonic franchise. Both the in game music and themes such as "It doesn't matter" and "Open your Heart" are amazing.

Sonic Adventure is a game which I recommend to any fan of Sonic, both old and new. This game is actually one of my three favourite games of all time. Definitely buy the game if you get the chance.
