Reasonable re-make that lacks the classic Sonic Gameplay...

User Rating: 6.4 | Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut GC
Having never played the original Sonic Adventure, I don't think I'm in a position to compare this remake, but it is a treat for gamers when a game I know was good, gets remade as a DIRECTOR'S CUT! This in itself is a rare treat for gamers. I own Sonic Heroes, and I'm impressed with taht, but this is different. Not better nessecarily, but very different. For instance, Sonic Adventure DX features a fully sprawling city (GTA mini, like) and you can move around a hotel, a train station, Mystic Ruins and a mountain. What I don't like about this is that there nothing to do apart from mission, apart from the Fun Park Levels. The city idea may be novel, but they didn't make it interactive, and very linear, thus leaving the city to make the game un-Sonic-ish. Can you say Glitchy McGlitch? This game contains so many little, annoying bugs, like Sonic just slipping through the game world, ultimately dying. It is bad to see that there are bugs in a remake of an old game, and where there should have been gameplay in spades, there is a bland hub gameworld, where everyone has no graphically animated face, and have nothing interseting to say. Audio is really average. The original tunes made by Sonic Team really get on your nerves, and during levels the music really puts you off. It is really poor, and considering Sega's history with audio, this is really dissapointing. But it's not all bad. The graphics are great! There are many varied levels, like Snowboarding and aeroplane flying levels. These are fun, but all of this is still UN-SONIC-ISH. It's a shame, because it looked so good on paper to remake Sonic's answer to Mario 64. It is all glam, no gameplay. The actual classic Sonic levels are quite good, but it is bad to see that other playable characters offer not much interesting gameplay. Knuckles is particularly bad to play as. But do you still want a Sonic game? Get Heroes instead. Heroes is longer, harder, more fun and generally better. There's a LOT of things to do in DX, but hardly any of it is very fun, but if you are a Sonic fan, you'll see it through to the end.
