User Rating: 9 | Solatorobo: Sore kara Coda e DS
Gameplay 9- Im pretty sure you have heard this before: hero X goes on a quest to stop Y from unleashing Z on the world. Though this is where the standard RPG story cliches end. The story of Solatorobo is actually one of the best Ive seen on the DS; with it's many twists and turns along the way. It kept me enthralled in the game and it has been a long time since I played something that was hard to put down.

The world is one in which the land consists of islands floating in a 'cloud sea' with a regular ocean far below. Despite the distances between the islands probably being great, travel is instant since you choose from a menu. Part of me wishes there was a bit more to the game in this area since foes are after you, you would think that between destinations you would be ambushed in flight.

One of the main drawbacks of Solatorobo is that it is very easy. At no point during the game did I really break a sweat. The combat amounts to lifting things and chucking them and is more of a test of how fast you can mash the A button over anything else.

When you are at your ship between missions you can customize your robot with stat upgrades. This takes the form of fitting pieces into a grid kinda like tetris. These upgrade pieces are pretty much all that money is used for. Other side things include looking for pieces of pictures to add to the gallery, looking for music to listen to- these are obtained by points you get from examining what look like victrolas.

Graphics 9- Visuals are mostly 2D anime style with some 3D models. They are colorful and look at home on the DS system. Each different area in the game has a different style and color themes which helps set them apart from each other.

Sound 9- To go along with the diverse graphical themes, the music is different for each place. And there are a massive amount of different tracks available in the games music theater. The battle music does repeat though.

Fun Factor 9- Despite the simple combat I had a great time with Solatorobo. It felt like a fresh experience even though it was a 'lite' RPG. It kept me wanting to play it with its twisting story and most of all, i had fun.

Replay Value 9- There are a great number of things to do aside from the main quest; such as extra side quests, finding music and picture pieces, as well as fishing and playing for certain amounts of time to find out more of the lore behind the game. If you are looking for a gentle experience that is well worth the price, Solatorobo will last you many hours.

Final Score- 45/50
