Is this Socom?

Wow Zipper what happened? Are you guys the same that developed the first Socom? I haven't reviewed a game in a while but considering Socom as my favorite tactical shooter I had to give my 2 cents. We all know the story and gameplay behind Socom 4 so let me get this out the way... Socom 4 is the worst game in the series. Graphics are pretty, duh this the PS3. But the important element is the tactics used but then again what tactics? Yes the commands are there, go there move now, ect. but it serves no purpose. You order your snipers to quietly take down enemies and your boneheaded squadmates start shooting ruining the purpose of stealth takedowns. Where are the clear and breach commands or the hold commands. Yes you hold tap to a position and the team holds until you order them, but it doesn't work when you want to use stealth. I'm not claiming for a Sam Fisher but isn't the Navy Seals suppose to go into missions quietly? I don't mind a little shootfest but not on all the levels. They try to incorporate solo stealth mission with 47 ala Splinter Cell but it doesn't feel right, the developers should've incorporated 2 Seals instead of 1 as in real life. And where are the driving missions or boat rides? Oh I forgot that'll be in the sequel. There's no mood in the game it's just you and the baddies. It amazes me how ambitous the developers were in making the first Socom and here we are 9 years latter with better technology and Socom 4 turns out to be a generic shooter. Don't get wrong for newbies this is a great game but for Socom vets like myself I find this game dissapointing. There's fun to be had with crisp realistic graphics and smooth controls but the boring levels and non tactical gameplay puts this edition of Socom in the middle of the shooters pack. Hopefully in the sequel they can work out the kinds and bring back vintage Socom gameplay but we just have to wait. Bottom line Socom 4 is fun and Multiplayer is a blast but true Socom it is not. If you want to play a game with better tactis play Rainbow Six Vegas but if you want a generic and pretty good shooter that's not first person, play Socom 4.
