A decent port that can only be fully enjoyed by playing with a friend

User Rating: 7.5 | Smash T.V. X360
Smash T.V is an arcade classic, which was ported over to the SNES and now has landed as an Xbox Live Arcade game for 400 Microsoft pts ($5). At the main menu you have the option of Single player or co-op. Single player has you playing content in the worst game show ever, were instead of gambling money you gamble with you're life! You are thrown into a square room were you fight seemingly endless hordes of guys with baseball bat's and work you're way to fighting the final stage boss. There are only three stages, which should take you easily 45minutes to beat the whole game but that's because when you play single player you have unlimited continues of three lives. This makes the challenge of the game particularly low that is until you get to the latter levels were you fight close to 40 enemies at a time. You start with a pistol and pick up weapon upgrades similar to the Contra series, the weapons range from spread shot to missile launchers. While their useful to wipe out your enemies with they have a short ammo supply and aren't really satisfying to shoot. The boss battles are defiantly the highlight of the game was the boss takes up most of the room. Single player doesn't provide much of a challenge and is mostly for people looking for achievements. The first few Achievements are easy to get but the later ones require you to beat levels with out using a continue and to beat the game with no Counties!
Multiplayer is the better experience were you play though the "story mode" with a friend but unfortunately you're lucky if you get through the first mission. When playing Co-op with a friend the game crashed every time we got to the first boss fight. After three tries we gave up, but it was one hell of a fun time playing co-op instead of single player. There is also local co-op, which is better than online because you run into many WTF moments in this game.
This game while fun with a friend is very very repetitive. You shoot the same looking enemy models through out the whole game, while in the latter levels new enemies are introduced they still have the older ones returning. The graphics are okay for there time but the game looks granny on a large TV. All in all Smash T.V is a good distraction from what ever retail games you're playing and is worth the five bucks but if you're not into retro games and are in it for the single player you will be very disappointed.
