Square Enix once again shows their intense story telling through this resurrection of True Crime

This game doesn't get enough credit. Barely anyone has heard of it, yet it's very original. It's a sandbox game done grand theft auto style, and I admit Rockstar games should take a few lessons from this game, but so should Square Enix to make their next tittle better as well. The story of Sleeping dogs pulls you in, I found it hard to stop playing at certain moments. It is also something that isn't done very often. I was frustrated for the first twenty minutes of this game because they drive on the left side of the road, I kept on crashing ha. This is one of not many sandbox games that isn't set in America and the only one that mixes criminal and justice story telling. There is of course the famous grand theft auto which is all about being a big time gangster, and there is saints row which is about being an indestructible badass gangster, and there is L.A. Noire which is about being a detective. However being an undercover cop and a gangster is something I personally haven't seen too often. It's interesting to take two parts on the missions in the game. On one hand you have to be brutal to get a high triad score on the other you have to be careful with let's call it collateral damage with citizens to boost your police score. Hong Kong looks fantastic in this game and the characters look almost realistic. The surroundings react to weather, and you can see the light bouncing of the streets when it rains. The one thing that really bothered me is that even when I played on Ultra settings on my computer the passerby's and not important characters looked pretty crappy. I understand that its impossible to make everything crystal clear, but they didn't fit into the world of high detail, some up close seemed like they were pulled out of a ps2 game, and that's why I took off a .5 for the game. The other half is Square Enix's atrocious vehicle design, they have improved but they still didn't get it right. The driving is fun I will grant them that, however the cars look terrible, kind of like in just cause 2, except that this time they shine when hit by sun rays and city lights at least. I don't know what it is with Square Enix but I always find their vehicle designs disappointing in comparison to everything else in the game. The story is fantastic the lack of multiplayer is a little disappointing but it's not a big deal. Some die hard fans of grand theft auto might find that the game doesn't have a lot of content outside of the main story line, however considering today's market this game was long enough. It wasn't super short like Wanted or main story lines of the Call of Duty series, and it wasn't too long like Skyrim and their never ending gameplay. If you do most of the side missions and the story in the game you will find that you are short of fifty hours that you just spent. Considering that this game is fairly cheap now, it's a pretty good deal. I recommend it.
