Skullgirls: 2D Female Demon Action on Par with Streetfighter with added style and gothic deco feel!

User Rating: 7.5 | Skullgirls PS3

Skullgirls wasreleased by Konami in Europe on May 2nd via download on PSN whereas on Xbox Live a month earlier, after word of mouth spread of a new beat 'em up 2D game holding the winning combination of Alex Ahad & Mike Zaimont.

Unique artist of Alex "o_8" Ahad who worked on the character designs over several years decided to tantalize us with tongue and cheek voluptuous strong women similar to that of Dead or Alive characters, focusing on the shape and silhouette more than excessive detail. Teamed up with the game play genius of renowned tournament champion Mike "Mike Z" Zaimont (worked on Blazeblue). This game gives players control of fierce female warriors in an extraordinary 'Dark Deco' world.

As a fully featured downloadable title, Skullgirls brings back the open ended combo system and fast pace of classic. It's high resolution hand drawn sprites and beautiful frame reel of a cinematic effect makes it shine amongst other games gaining interest from male and female gamers looking for something quirky and new.

You have a classic arcade mode, comprehensive training mode, and GGPO (short for Good Game, Peace Out). Variable team size and the choose-your-own assist custom reminisce of the Marvel vs Capcom fighting system with being able to pick specific assists for your team of two-three,(different combos can be beneficial or really bad).

If you decide to battle as single-character you are incredibly strong with high health, whereas if you choose a team comprised of three characters, each will be relatively weak. Only drawback is the limited number of playable characters (just 8 for launch) it does restrict your options.

The Skullgirls Original Soundtrack contains 28 tracks composed by distinguished game composer Michiru Yamane (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Suikoden III and IV), award-winning game composer Vincent Diamante (Flower), as well as composers Blaine McGurty (Retro Remix Review) and Brenton Kossak. Yamane's soundtrack perfectly sets the jazzy gothic mood.

The fact that this is a £10 game means nothing as it doesn't offer any less than another £30 fighting game. Skullgirls is a good contender to match with the likes of Street Fighter 4 and other 2D heavyweights.

( i gave a slightly lower rating as I despise 2D fighting games but I commed it for all it's other attributes!)
