So this is what it would feel like looking through the eyes of others...

User Rating: 8.6 | Forbidden Siren PS2
Siren is set in a mysterious village named Hanuda which seems peaceful until a blood-curling siren screams in the night air and the villagers are being lead towards the red sea which should not have existed...they soon come back as Shibito, the living dead in Japanese. It is not known how it happened from the start, but there are several human survivors desperately trying to survive with the power of 'Sightjack', to see through the eyes of the others.

GAMEPLAY: This is by far the most original gameplay I've played since I've played it, the controls may feel a little clunky but it is because the game is made to be quite realistic. With the sightjacking system, this game is not only a survival horror it is made for stealth as well; your character are not your typical heroes, they are average human beings who is at the wrong place in the wrong time and they cannot suffer too much punishment from the Shibito before dying.

GRAPHICS: The game features a 3D way of the character's faces to present well done expressions and the environment reveals a creepy atmosphere, because of the heavy fog making it harder for your character to locate enemies but no problem for your enemies. However sometimes there is a handful of drawbacks from the visual detail but it is not necessarly the end of the world!

SOUND: Despite several comments of the bad voice acting because there was no option of the character's own voice acting (that's right, all the characters are all done by real people.) I actually found it most voices matches each character's personalities. The BGM is well done and creates fear in some areas and in certain stages there will be singing in the distance as a BGM, and last but not the least the Shibito's mutters/laughs/cries/grunts when sightjacking them are what really makes the game really frightening!

VALUE: This game is Hard, and I mean Hard! You will be dying several times trying to solve the puzzle given, and there isn't too many hints to help you out, except when you are trying to search for secondary mission keys for a future mission to finish the second mission in that particular stage. If you are new, it will take a rather long time before you finish. But since this game is rather creative by playing again will shorten the time played when you start anew, meaning you are getting the idea of how exactly you're supposed to play. And it can take a while to understand the gameplay, but a bright and patient player will understand quickly. Unfortunately apart from improving your way of playing the game, there isn't much of a replay value.

OVERALL: This game is very original, very creepy and is hard! This game is worth it if you have an interest in Japanese horror and culture, if you are very patient and have some common sense. I recommend you play this game, by far it is the most underrated game I've played and I wasn't disappointed, you shouldn't be either. Sure this game has some flaws but the brilliant story, character development and the gameplay will surpass all that.
