Oh no. Another SingStar review by me, but unfortuneately this one doesn't come up trumps!

If I had played this when it was brand new, I'd love it, but the newer versions do a lot more for the game, as a result this one seems dated, and quite a lot.

Don't get me wrong, this game is still by all means excellent, but now I'm going to list the reasions why you're better off with a newer version (Popworld upwards, meaning avoid Party).

Reason 1:
Timing on this game is made extremely difficult (even if you know the song) as there is no indication prior to the words being sung (except on the opening line of a song) so unless you KNOW when the words are to be sung, which I couldn't really suss out on a song I know from years back, it'll throw you off track and makes singing new songs a real chore. it does take most of the fun out which is a shame.

Reason 2:
Menu screens are also more tedious, name input is required everytime you launch the game, it does not save names but does save high scores.

Reason 3:
The chances of you getting a decent score on ANY song are extremely slim. Scoring is extremely low and even a belter of a performance will result in a low low rank.

Reason 4:
The songs on the selection wheel are in a totally random order so finding your song is harder than newer installments.

Other than this, it is a good game, just not as good as other Singstars.
Ideal for parties or anytime really this game allows you to sing to some decent tracks, but there's some awful ones too.

I recommend maybe getting this a a first SingStar title, but only out of curiosity for the older ones. The later ones are definately the way to go.

Summed up in 4 words:
Too old and dated
