As if they were unable to learn from the mistakes of those who came before them, EA decided to sully this poor game with a horrible DRM, turning it effectively into Digital Rental Media. You aren't purchasing the game- you're purchasing a license to rent it for as long as they keep their servers up!

This is a pretty big deal for some players who have unstable internet connections or expect to be without connections for periods of time while wanting to play games! Be fully aware of what it is that you are purchasing. Like other "always on" games, your ability to play this SINGLE PLAYER GAME is limited to whether EA's servers are up, and whether you can establish a connection to them.

My Sim City 2000 still works perfectly after all of this time... but will this game be able to say the same in 7-8 years, when EA grows bored of keeping its servers up? I wonder about that.

It's a shame, really. This archaic concept of DRM, of treating all customers (especially the paying ones) as if they are criminals whom EA must protect their software from, is as outdated as the idea of releasing the game on floppy disks. And the sad thing is... installing this game via 5,000+ floppies would be less of an inconvenience than the current DRM!

In the end, the game's engine is a little more limited than the older versions but definitely a nice upgrade by way of graphics and flashy stuff... but none of that matters the first time you try to play the game while your net is messing up. :(
