I've heard about and wanted to play this sim for years considering its reputation and what I've seen online, youtube, etc. Problem is, it just doesn't run on new operating systems
I'm very interested in the subject matter and have read books about WWII Atlantic submarine warfare and am a huge fan of "Das Boot". The buzz about SHIII suggests that it's probably still the best subsim out there.
I purchased an honest-to-goodness new hard copy (box and all, pretty old school, eh?) of this a few years ago and was stoked to start my long awaited career as a sub commander.
Alas, that dreadful and viral "Starforce" infected the entire Windows Vista operating system rendering the game not only unplayable but I also had to do a clean reinstall of the system software. After a time I upgraded to Windows 7 and thought I might try it again with service packs, etc. No such luck, the same black cloud stuck again.
I really didn't know what kind of score to give this game because I haven't been able to play it so my "score" is arbitrary. Everything I've seen and read indicates for someone who's into realistic sims, this belongs in the the 8-10 range.
If anyone has any ideas how to run this thing, leave ol' Jackrabbit a message in the inbox. I've tried just about everything to get this thing to run outside of using Bootcamp on the Mac.
