Silent hill is back after 3 years with a bang!
Well when this game was first announced silent hill fans where a bit worried because team silent were not developing it, understandable and not only that but americans will now be making it, which made sh fans worry becuase there is no way they could make it as good as team silent could they?. So it was now in Climax's hands they could continue the series and make it even better or break it, it was all resting on their shoulders our beloved sh series. When it was announced that it would be on the PSP that raised many more questions such as could the PSP handle it?, will it still be the same experience on a small screen?, or even be as scary well alot was riding on Climax pulling this one off.
Sh fans fears didnt get any better but just worse when climax released the first screenshots and videos of the game, it was terrible they had gave it a RE4 inspired gameplay mehanic, with laser sightings on the pistols and really sh***y looking monsters that made really funny noises when being attatcked, this wasnt silent hill at all and alot of people thought including myself that the series was done for. The only thing keeping fans hopes alive was the fact that Akira Yamaoka was overlooking the process of the game being develped.
But then about a year later things took a turn for the better, Climax released new videos and pics and boy did it look alot better, there was the old classic sh gameplay back, it was dark and grim and had the filter affect in it looked so great, so did they pull it off?
Well yes the game is everything a sh fan would want from the game it is just like one of the old games but on the PSP Climax really have out done themselves with this one. Every thing that was great about the old games is back the flashlight, the radio, the maps and importantly the gameplay.
This being a prequel everyone is going to want to know the back story behind the series especially the first game and not to give anything away but yes I think they have done very well with the story.
The puzzles that we have all loved through the series are in of course you will spend a majority of your time working these out which is alot of fun.
Akira Yamaoka has once again added his magic to the game with the freaky sounds and music this game wouldnt be silent hill without it.
A new breakable weapons system has been added to the game this time round so you dont just hold on to a weapon all the way through this time like the previous games you pick up loads of weapons you find scattered around the environment and after a few hits they will break I thought this would annoy me at first but it is fine really because your never short of weapons to find and now for the first time the protagonist can use his fists and fight if need be, and of course you have the guns back in.
The transition between real world and alternate world happen again of course but only this time it is done through choice by touching mirrors anf everything changes around you, I guess this does take away some scare factor but this game is scary but you must play it with the lights down and your headphones on for the best effect and experience, on PSP or not on PSP this game still delivers the same scary impact the others do.
This 100% is a sh game dont turn your nose up to it because its on the PSP it is a proper part of the story and is an essential play if your a sh fan.
Sorry this review was a bit of a mess lol but I just needed to get my thoughts down lol so basicaly if you like sh or your a massive fan of sh buy this game and enjoy and dive into the crazy world of silent hill for the first time in 3 years ohhh memories :)
