A game that anyone would enjoy!

User Rating: 8.7 | Silent Hill 2 (Special 2 Disc Set) PS2
Silent Hill 2 is the sequel to Konami’s survival horror series Silent Hill that was released back in 1999 for the Playstation. Silent Hill 2 does not continue from the original Silent Hill but it is required that you play the original Silent Hill to understand the story line especially to understand the transition from the normal world to the demon world because Silent Hill 2 does not explain this at all.

The storyline puts you in the shoes of a man name James who happen to be looking for his wife Mary because he received a letter from inviting him to meet her at their special place in Silent Hill…oh and his wife was dead by the way. The story line has a lot of plot twists and was very well done.
The sound effects and music in the game was well done. The music puts you in the various moods for the game weather it be sorrow, anger or leaves you in mystery. The radio also returns from the first installment of the game, and gives off static as usual when an enemy is near. The voice acting was also done very well probably as good as the Soul Reaver series.

The graphics is where this game really shines and even though it was released around 2001 it is still very impressive to this day in age of 2004. The environments are very detailed and the characters and monsters are very detailed. The cinematic movies were done very well but there aren’t many and they are very short. Some of the cut scenes also are not in full three dimensional so to are some of the endings but this in not a fault overall in the game but it would have been nice to the endings in cinematic graphics. The overall light and shadow effects work well to add fright to the player but it is not as scary as the first Silent Hill.

The controls are your regular survival horror controls, so not mush to explain here the controls are also the same from the first Silent Hill. Maneuvering and avoiding enemies are however easy because of the controls. Easier than Resident Evil I may add.

The game is a lot of fun and a must have for anyone who love the series and anyone in fact who love horror games. The game took me about 8 hours the first time I played it on Normal action difficulty and Normal puzzle difficulty. There are six different endings in the game so you might play this game more than once to either get another ending to play it again because the game is so good.
