In my restless dreams I wouldn't though about a game so crazy and so good

User Rating: 9 | Silent Hill 2 (Special 2 Disc Set) PS2
Many people consider this to be the best game in the series, and with a franchise this good, that is not saying little. The first game in the franchise i played was SH3 because it was the first one i found to buy, but then i found this one and SH4:The Room, which i'm about to play. Now, i can see why this game is considered to be the best.

GRAPHICS:
The graphics looks spectacular, showing a great amout of detail on the face of the characters, and the cut scenes in particular look very good. Nevertheless, i think the game is a bit too dark, making it hard to see at times. 4.9/5

SOUND:
As you would expect, the sound is amazing too. The songs, mostly the opening "Theme of Laura" are incredible, and the sound effects, voice acting and monster sounds are also great. 5/5

GAMEPLAY, STORY AND CONTROLS:
The game is a survivor horror. You play a James Sunderland, who comes to Silent Hill looking for his dead wife Mary. Confused yet? Well, while the story starts out crazy, i begin to be more and more involving and well told as the game goes, but the are a lot of things that don't make sense still, like (SPOILERS) who really is Laura, what happend to Angela and when Mary really died. The endings also are very confusing, but they are nice. I did the "In Water" ending, which is all text, but is nice. On your journey to Silent Hill, you have to go to 4 main locations beside exploring the town. The game IS survivor horror: little ammo availiable, creepy atmosphere and combat can be avoided. There isn't a lot of variety in the weapons, as there are only 3, but this means that you won't have to worry too much of running out of ammo on all you're weapons, as you mostly always have at least one with it. One thing i hate is that James (like all other survivor horror protagonists) walks on a geriatric pace, like nothing bad is going on, so you need to hold the square button for him to run, and he will get tired after a while. Nothing much to add, exept the puzzles, which are mostly logical and can be quite interesting to do. To move James, you control him like a tank, which, while a bit akward, you will get used to. But the worst thing about the controls is that i found them to be a little unresponsive at times when you are attacking, which can be a bit bad. One last add to the gameplay is that your objectives aren't too criptic normaly, but at times you will wonder what you will have to do. Although, the gameplay is still solid. Also introduced in this game is Pyramid Head, a monster with will scare you and in actually very memorable, due to its clever design and actual meaning of existaince.4/5
