User Rating: 10 | Sid Meier's Civilization III PC
Civilization III somehow continues to be insanely addictive and immensely enjoyable, despite the fact that it looks like a Facebook flash game. Once you get into this game, it will keep you planted in your chair; clicking away, cursing, and letting out cries of triumph. This brings me to the game's one big detraction: it comes with an EXTREMELY steep learning curve. The resources in the game are excellent for point definitions and tips and the game does attempt to explain some of its aspects, but there is simply too much content to effectively teach. The game is so rich, it requires a sizable time commitment simply to learn how to work the game sufficiently. This fact is also part of the game's charm: you are constantly learning new things. One other negative point is that the game's combat system plays much like a game of Risk. Those of you who seem to have bad luck in all rolls of the die will curse this aspect.
Nevertheless, Civ III will make you pine for that feeling you get when you reach a new age or build that Wonder of the World you read about and thought was so cool. It will make you cackle like a madman when you finally crush that nation you've been warring with for generations. It will leave you with a deep sense of satisfaction.
