You are allowed to bring a companion along with your main character into the battle. Everything that you do in the battle has a lot to do with your equipments, stat and skills. By figuring out the right mix of stat, (equipment requires a certain amount of stat to be equipped) you can customize your character into different styles. One may use Xion, the main character as a physical attacker with high STR, and lower AGI, doing huge damage but potion frequently, another may get high AGI but low STR, enjoying the "miss" that even boss level monster would do to you. Some may even choose to be INT type, using thunder to prove its might over the sword. There are also a variety of skill you can choose from. From single skill that require SP to deal good damage like Gravity Slash to passive skill that boost up your character's SP recovering speed like Meditation, you can choose to level up any of these skill to create the best character. This is the fun of this game: building up a character carefully, and enjoy the result.
