A classic RPG gets resurrected for the GBA.

User Rating: 8.6 | Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon GBA
Long time fans of the Shining Force series will already be familiar with this game which is essentially a port of the Mega Drive/Genesis original. The story is simple, you gather a party of warriors to prevent an ancient evil from awakening and bringing about the destruction of the world.

The game is very much story driven with the battles interspersed with conversations with your party members and the local townsfolk who will offer advice and shelter when your weary team arrives. You soon grow an attachment to the warriors in your group and I found myself carefully selecting the ones most in need of levelling up when the time came to take them into battle. No man or woman was to be left behind.

Battles require a great deal of planning and patience as you will often find your strongest characters aren't necessarily suited to the terrain they are fighting on. Therefore, levelling up your party members equally pays dividends. This update also features a new card battle system which wasn't present in the original, adding a new tactical dimension to the battles.

This game will consume a great deal of time simply because the battles can take up to an hour or even longer, especially as you progress through the chapters. But this game is a classic for a reason and luckily for GBA owners and RPG fans alike, nothing has been lost in translation.
