Capture, create and modify demons! So much fun!

What makes a game good to me or at least fun to play or addicting is how it grabs my attention and keeps it for the whole game, not jst the intro. Devil Summoner is that game. The story takes off from the begining and the missions themselves always have you thinking about what to do.

You play as Raidu the 14th, a Devil Summoner who has the ability to cature demons and use them as allies in battles. You start out being able to capture 4, but it can be increased to 12 as you gain demon loyalty. In order to capture a demon you have to find their weakness in battle, once they are weak, you can suck them into a tube and become their master. Now, you can summon the demon in battle and control it's actions. After each battle the loyalty meter and EXP goes up. Each demon has specific elemental characteristics which you will need in certain battles.

What you need to get through the game is a demon for each element, Volt, Freeze, Pyro, Skill, Wind and Pagan. As you progress, you can level up your current demons or trade up by using fusion to create a new and more powerful demon. This was by far the best part of the game, as I spent hours creating new demons in trying to get the most powerful ones for my level. Of course you cannot control a demon with a higher level than you, but it's so easy to level up in this game it's only a matter of time before you can control every demon available. Along with the missions, there is a training hall where you can find new demons or level up.

Leveling up is easy because there is only one safe zone in the whole game (Nameless Shrine) which means that in every town, cave or dungeon you can be attacked by enemies. Once you get one or two demons that can heal you then you can spend hours fighting off enemies and building EXP. As for the fusion, you have to max out each demons loyalty, then combine them to make something new. Also the higher the level of the demon, the higher and more powerful the new demon will be, so its advantageous to level up not only Raidu but your demons as well. There are many factors involved, but the fusion system is easy to master, and since you can register your demons, if you make a mistake you can just re-summon the original demon back for a large fee.

The story itself is kinda weird but fits into the SMT series of games. You start out by being a detective on the search for Kayla who is a missing girl. This missing girl ends up being possessed by the final enemy of the whole game so this mission carries the whole story. The game takes place in episodes where different cases or missions take place but they all end up tying together. There are also "Dark" worlds which are exact mirrors of the real world but instead of humnas, demons walk around.

I finished this game at level 78 and had all the top demons which made the final dungeon pretty simple to navigate. This is definately a great game to play and its very addicting for a RPG game. If you enjoy the SMT series then you will love this game. So far, one of my favorites.
