The Good vs Bad when it comes down to Saints Row: The Third.

User Rating: 9.5 | Saints Row: The Third PS3
Before I even get started with the review, I want to let all of you know that I haven't played the previous Saints Row titles, but plan to. With that being said; don't expect any comparisons to the previous two games within this review. Saints Row: The Third caught my eye with its coverage at E3 2011 and since then I was sure to be guaranteed a not just good, but AMAZING time. Now that the game has been released and I've picked it up, did it meet up with my expectations? Find out by reading on in this review!

I usually don't answer the question that I just asked right in the beginning, but I feel as if a 'Hell Yes' is in order, and no other answer would do unless I placed a couple more swears between the 'Hell' and 'Yes'. Saints Row 3 (because I don't feel like saying 'The Third' repeatedly) is beyond what I had expected, and because I had such a great time with it, it's made its way up into my Top 5 games of all time. This is primarily because of the fact that this game has just about EVERYTHING. But all sweet talk aside, we should probably get to the actual review itself.

For starters, I should get back to the fact that this game has just about everything a game could have in it. Between skydiving in a tank, participating in a wrestling match, taking on the undead and even more, this game assures that you will not only have fun but continue to do so over a long period of time. Along with the many things you can do in the world of Saints Row 3, it would be a shame if I didn't mention how deep the character customization for the game is. Customizing your character for this game can keep just about every kind of person out there satisfied. From the way his or her body looks to the many choices of clothing provided, no personality is left out of the loop. While on the topic of customization and depth, you can also customize just about every vehicle you bring to your garage from its color to the parts actually on the car. Though it's not even half as deep as the character customization, it's still a fun and great part of the game.

As far as the graphics for this game are concerned, I can't say there is anything wrong with them as far as screen-tears, freezes, or even texture issues go. The game itself though does have some pretty decent visuals and a large open world to explore and wreak havoc in. The sounds for this game are pretty nice as well, from the voice acting talents for many different characters to the music; which has lead the game to have one of my favorite soundtracks this year had to offer.

Saints Row 3 took me just a bit over 13 hours to complete the main story line (without doing side-quests) on my first play-through, and the whole 13 hours managed to remain fresh from start to finish. Along the way, many things were introduced to me that I have never seen in any other game, and with all the things you have to do from the main missions alone, many will find themselves wanting to replay this game numerous times.

The games Co-Op is very well executed and is a must play, especially if you have friends with the game. Beat the game already? Just join one of your friends and you'll find yourself doing the missions you've completed once before in a whole new way. An example of what I'm talking about is a mission in which you have to 'conquer your fears' by driving around with a tiger in the back seat of your car. When playing alone, all you have to do is drive at a fast pace without hitting anything to raise your courage and keep the tigers rage low. When playing with a friend, the host will have to drive while he or she who joined has to go through a series of gestures with the thumb-sticks and buttons to keep the tiger calm. There are many more co-op activities such as that, but as we bring the good things about this game to a close I can't forget to mention Whored Mode, which is basically Horde Mode with a naughtier name. This will keep you and a friend (unless you wish to go solo) quite entertained in the event that you need a break from wreaking havoc in the campaign.

For the bad things about this game, I can honestly say that there isn't anything that will affect the games score by much. One of the two bad things about this game only exists if you're easily offended. This game doesn't seem to show mercy towards anything, and if you're the type to get easily offended this isn't the game for you at all. The only other bad thing about this game is the often annoying repetition of threats, jokes, and over-all dialogue from time to time. I can't even begin to mention how annoyed I've become with the saying "Murder Time Fun Time!"

Other than that this game is definitely worth a buy, even if you haven't played the other Saints Row titles. Though be warned, there are quite a few moments in the game that connect with the previous two and will leave you wondering what's going on. I myself will be picking up the first two soon, but until that time comes I will continue playing this well-deserved 9.5 out of 10.
