The Worst Survivor Of The Survivors.

I don't even know where to start with Facepunch Studios anymore. Some companies never change and this one is definitely a great example of unwillingness to change to become better.

Rust is still very unbalanced to this very day, gun play and hit boxes are still a mess, the game isn't optimized, there are still networking errors on a constant basis for a lot of people, game load times are absolutely absurd on traditional mechanical disks, paid connection queue bypassing is a thing (pay to connect? Yes, it's real.), still memory leaks and actually eats up more system memory than what the minimal system requirements state on the Rust Steam store page.

The network engine backing Rust (RakNet) has been abandoned and obsoleted for years now, isn't RFC compliant anymore, EAC constantly throws errors or causes game issues stopping people from playing the game for weeks or sometimes months at a time, updates come and bust the game for many people lasting weeks or months at a time, frame rate is a constant problem and has been for most of Rust's development and the game is still an alpha game (developer stated to the media) after almost five years now. Shouldn't Rust be closer to a beta at this stage since it left Early Access? Absolutely! Rust was nowhere near complete before nor after leaving Early Access either yet company charges full retail price for a game that isn't even complete. What an exciting time to support developers in 2018!

What is the point of Early Access if this is this kind of incomplete product is allowed to leave the program in such a state? Developers have literally no reason or need to complete a game inside Early Access when they're allowed to shove their incomplete and broken games out of the program with no liability or consequence what so ever. Developers can make even more money on that incomplete and broken game even though it's not even close to being bug free or complete. The company said to think of Rust having left prototyping and consider it entering the alpha phase. Well hello, prototyping is alpha so nothing changed. The same game that was in Early Access only took a price hike to make more money.

The community is another problem all on its own for Rust and at large, it is utterly toxic and not very inviting to be involved with for veterans and newbies alike. Griefing, racism, prejudice, hate speech, slander, death threats, lynch mobbing, baiting to cause trouble, naming and shaming - you name it, the Rust community literally has all - anything that could be negative in a gaming community. A big problem in the community is they love nothing more than to skew reviews too. You will see this on almost every review site for Rust and the fact that their community does this is shameful on every level. Skewing results to forcibly make a game look better than it really is, is shameful.

Another aspect of this game that is truly distasteful to a lot of people is the vanilla Rust experience. Why is vanilla game play so bad? If you don't have a life, a job, a family, pets or hobbies, being a solo player in Rust might not be for you, but if you have absolutely zero obligations in life and all the time in the world to play, solo Rust game play is probably for you. Vanilla Rust requires you to have absolutely no life simply because grinding and farming for resources takes a lot of time. You spend more time farming than actually enjoying the many aspects of the game if you want to move up in progression. Not only that, but you have to go through all that to build a digital home that will get pillaged in the first week of playing. There is also the matter of needing to keep resources so that your base does not decay. Then there is the lovely aspect of being offline raided which is very common in Rust now more than ever. From a vanilla play standpoint, Rust is extremely demanding of a person's time and unless you have a vast amount of time to waste, you're likely not going to get far in Rust. Sure, you can play modified servers, but it is only a workaround for the short comings of the vanilla game play experience. In a lot of those cases, the game play just becomes boring because the modifications are too much. Some servers use modifications to correct the shortcomings of vanilla Rust, but the point of this all is that players shouldn't have to go to modified servers because the vanilla game play is so unbalanced and broken. If you're playing in large groups vanilla becomes too easy and the same applies for modified servers. There really is hardly any happy medium between challenge and too easy in Rust anymore.

Rust is not the game it was hyped to be and turned into a completely different game than it started out as. The developers lack direction, Rust lacks direction, the company is slow to complete projects and they abandons more projects than they actually finish. The company is slow to change, improve and adapt software to keep current with the technology and the times.

There are bigger and better titles out there to be played. There are companies out there who truly work hard and passionately to earn the privilege of having your money. Support what is right in the video game industry. Spend wisely.
