Great improvements, too many losses

User Rating: 8.3 | RPG Tsukuru PS2
For those who have followed the RPG maker series, this installment is very much worth your time. It is far superior to RPG maker 1 and 2 in terms of graphical quality and ease of use, but in the transition it has lost many features that made 2 so versatile. There are only 4 members allowed in your party, and you cannot create cut scenes. There is no random number generator, and there seems to be a lack of programming options. Some of these issues can be resolved with a little coding ingenuity (the party concerns, especially), but it seems like many cuts were made in order to make this game perfect for all ages. Despite the flaws, this game is still extraordinarily addictive and fun, allowing you to make towns, dungeons, and fields that look pretty impressive all things considered. The number of character models is excellent, although you will likely get bored of the limited visualizations and skill animations. The monsters look good too, as do the weapons. If you have big plans of making inventive new RPG mechanics, buy C++ and start learning to code. If you want to make a classic turn based, story centered SNES-style RPG, look no further...
