It's a good game, it just fails to show it...

User Rating: 6.5 | Road to India: Between Hell and Nirvana PC
The Road to India feels like a classic adventure game. It's one of those first-perspective games based on 360 degree backgrounds and 3d models put onto them. While on the technical side it's pretty good, it fails when it comes to gameplay.

Seriously: I've completed the game in about two hours. It's really short, and the puzzles aren't challenging either, except only for one or two, which took me more than five minutes. Fortunately, there's no pixel hunting, and usually you know what to do, so it's just straightforward puzzle-to-puzzle scheme. Controls are classic and moving around the in-game world is very easy.

The plot has even less complexity than a 20-minute cartoon. And it's pretty cliche, too. It seemed interesting at first and it's a shame it wasn't expanded.

For 2001, the graphics are really nice. It's based almost entirely on pre-renders, which look good and represent the atmosphere of India well (though one of the previous reviewers noted New Delhi is presented too stereotypical). The music isn't monotoneous and never really gets boring because of the game's shortness. Works pretty well :) The voice acting is okay. On the technical side it's a good, solid game.

However, since the game has nothing innovative to offer and ends too quickly, the final mark is lowered. It's one of those games which are GOOD, but don't show enough. It had potential.

GRAPHICS: 5/6 (x1)
Very good, but nothing more than that.

SOUND: 5/6 (x1)
Same as graphics.

GAMEPLAY: 3/6 (x2)
Good controls, but you won't be playing long...

FINAL SCORE: 4/6
Worth checking out if you got it as a gift from somebody. If you wish to buy a classic adventure game, rather try something from LucasArts or Sierra instead.
