Ristar - Forgotten gem of a game!

User Rating: 9.6 | Ristar: The Shooting Star GEN
I bought Ristar when it originally was released on the Mega Drive (Genesis) and I have to admit everything about it just gives off a sense of quality.
First of which are the graphics, it is by far one of the most beautiful games on the Mega Drive up there with Sonic 3D and Virtua Raing, it looks like a really fine Super Nintendo game from that period.
The level design is also excellent with many different routes through most levels in a similar way to Sonic 3, In fact Ristar started out as a Prototype for Sonic 3 but was ruled out as it was too much of a change to the tried and tested Sonic formula.

The Music is of a similar quality to the early Sonic games as it is also excellent in that it really pushed the Mega Drive's sound capabilities with complex music an sound effects.

It does have the odd glitch and the Mega Drive's controller isn't really suited to it either, but now you can get it on the current gen consoles in Sonic Mega Collection and on the Wii's Virtual Console, you should be able to find a decent pad for it as it works well with the precision and smooth movement of the analogue sticks.
