Ring Fit: Actual Fitness Game

User Rating: 9 | Ring Fit Adventure NS

Gameplay-

This game has multiple modes designed for various exercises. But the main adventure is the focus of the game. There are three main forms of gameplay: the running courses, the minigames, and the combat.

Jogging is very responsive to the motion controls. There is no time limit and you can pause at anytime, so going slow is always an option. However shortcuts exist on many courses, which require you to run at a faster speed or perform a precise action. Other actions like jumping and item collecting are strait forward. Some unique obstacles will require special exercises, making it a minigame of sorts.

Minigames focus entirely on one type of exercise. This means that there is a large variety that will allow you to skip what you hate and focus on what you like.

Combat is the primary RPG and leveling up system of the game. Perform a specific exercise to deal damage. There is basic strategy involved; it’s simple without it being insultingly easy. You need to perform exercises to attack. Which attack you use is up to you, kind of… Better attacks typically use harder exercises. Luckily you can go at a very slow pace; taking a full minute break while you’re attacking is completely legal.

Story-

Very short and basic normally, although there is a slightly wholesome charm sometimes. The comedy is more lighthearted and witty rather than bombastic or crude. The game can also sometimes troll you; there are a few chapters where it looks like they are just stealing from a fairytale, but then they make a few oddball surprises.

Overall it’s easy to ignore, but not bad.

Appearance & Music-

Very beautiful when it’s not visually repetitive. Lighting and colors are amazing, but some levels share identical ascetics. Can be either relaxing, upbeat or intense depending on the situation.

Lifespan-

The adventure mode is absolutely massive. It took me months just to finish the game once, and it has 2 additional replays where they increase the level of everything. Since it’s a fitness game, I would say it is definitely something I will go back to once I need to do indoor fitness again.

Other Notes-

The biggest issue about the game is that it is stretched out in such a way where it resorts to shamefully reusing levels. I understand that fitness and exercise is somewhat repetitive anyways, but it's pathetic when applied to a game this excessively. Music is also repeated frequently, although it is mostly calming. The battle music however is very repetitive since battles are so frequent.

I don’t know why but the ‘Mountain Climber’ exercise is almost impossible for me. I normally can ignore it, but there are 2 or 3 times when the game forces me to try it. I just cheese it, moving the motion controls as if my leg was moving in the way the game wants me. I don’t recommend this for the other exercises, because I don’t know if that would even work for the more complex movements. Also this is an exercising game, so why ignore the exercise for the most part?

Tips-

Since this game is about exercise, it encourages farming for experience points. Farm levels with Dragon Fruit if your current level is very high, Dragon Fruit is like Pokemon’s Rare Candies. Use Sesame Seed Smoothie to farm ingredients. Use Smoothies that double experience when facing Silver Rare enemies to get a massive experience boost, and double money for the Gold enemies.

Lookup the “Ring Fit Adventure Resource Sheet”. It is by far the best guide for this game. For some reason, there are very few other guides or wikis detailing anything about this game.

Overall-

Ring Fit is a genuine fitness experience. I have seen my health improve significantly while playing it. I will say that this is absolutely not designed for intense bodybuilding. This is a fitness exercise designed for safe and easy exercises that still produce good results. It is much cheaper than the gym and a better alternative for those beginning to try fitness. Ring Fit is not designed to be a normal videogame, it would be standard and mediocre if it was played without exercising. With exercising, it is a challenging and beneficial experience. The game also can adjust its intensity, allowing almost anyone to try the game at the pace that they are comfortable with; you can increase intensity for more of a challenge, or decease intensity for a more relaxing experience.
