Maybe not as good as Ridge Racer type 4, but still a blast to play.

Namco is famous for two Playstation franchises: Tekken and Ridge Racer. They both started in the arcades and was later on ported over to that great 32-bit machine we all know as the Playstation or the PSX.

Anyway, Ridge Racer's only story is: get to the finish line before your opponents! That's fine since you don't really expect all well detailed plot like the one in Metal gear Solid, so it works. As for racing, you have only one track to race on (with extra adds on hard difficulty) which might be a little disappointing, but that doesn't kill or even hurts the game play what so ever.
As for cars you'll begin with four cars, each with it's strength and weakness. In order to unlock more, you'll have to destroy all the ships on the Galaga screen that appears while the game is loading.

In conclusion, the original Ridge Racer is a good game even though it's not as good as type 4, but if you see it I'd say get it! You won't regret it!
