Initially Fun Title, That Showcases The PS4's Power, But Still Feels Like A Space Invaders Reboot

User Rating: 7 | Resogun PS4

Resogun, released onto the PS4's PSN, as a downloadable game for free to those who used their 14-day trial of PlayStation Plus, and for those who have extended theirs. It's a fun, if simple Space Invaders themed shooter, that doesn't truly do much more than get me playing for just 15 minutes, before I gave up on it. It was fun, but it wasn't much more than a showcase for the PS4's power, and graphics.

Graphically, the game is probably beautiful, especially those who have waited expectantly for the Next- Gen consoles. But for those who perhaps wanted a hard-hitting shooter, or RPG to download on PSN, they were probably disappointed as I was.

Gameplay wise, well it is fun so to speak, but it feels to much like Space Invaders or other themed shooters. You control a single ship you choose from the beginning, and use the thumb sticks to fire both left to right, as you try and save humans from alien ships that you constantly shoot down, and they re-spawn.

The Good:

- A fun, enjoyable title for new owners of the PS4.

- Fun, and beautiful graphics in particular it's explosion effects are perfect.

The Bad:

- Feels too much like a Space Invaders themed shooter, nothing new or innovative to enjoy.

- The effect does not last for long, I could only play for 15 minutes before I grew bored.

- Other than set waves of enemies, to beat back and save stranded humans it's quite boring eventually.

Resogun for those who are fans of the genre, that Space Invaders created; will thoroughly enjoy it, but for those who expected much more in terms of downloadable games, will be very much disappointed. Not worth buying, for it's initial PSN price, but better to rent for free for your 14-day PlayStation Plus trial, or in general if you extend it.
