Resistance Fall of Man is ruined by it's extremely difficult enemies and horrible checkpoints. Approach with caution.

User Rating: 6.5 | Resistance: Fall of Man PS3
Resistance Fall of Man is a game created by insomniac games who happen to be the creators of the hit PS2 franchise Ratchet and Clank. The game was a launch title for the PS3 and unfortunately the only launch title worth checking out since all of the other games suck very bad. In Resistance Fall of Man there is no world war II, but instead in the 1950's the Russians created a virus called the Chimera Virus and it somehow spread all across Europe infecting people. Eventually a new race is formed out of this virus called the Chimera and they have only one plan on their mind, exterminate all humans. They eventually start taking over the planet and eventually invade Britain itself. This is where you come in, you play as Sgt. Nathan Hale and are assigned to go to Britain to help the British take back Britain from the Chimera. This is as far as I will go into Resistance Fall of Man's story even though it is clearly one that is simple and easy to follow.

To start off with, this game is hard, very hard you do not know how many times I yelled in anger at the television set. The game is very hard on the normal difficulty and the checkpoints seem to be too far apart causing some extreme frustration and anger especially when you just fought a battle that was really hard and then you get plunged into another extremely hard firefight that you have to survive or else will have to go 3 firefights back which in Resistance is 3 extremely hard firefights too much. The game is fun though when you are not dying every 2 minutes and there is a good variety of interesting monsters and weapons that only insomniac could create, the pacing is well to.

Resistance Fall of Man looks decent for the most part, but nothing jaw dropping and certainly not even close to Gears of War. The games graphics do set the mood to a degree. The framerate is perfect though and never slows down even when you are in huge battles with a ton of things happening on screen.

The multiplayer in Resistance Fall of Man allows you to play with up to 40 players at one time which is pretty amazing since most console games don't have this feature. There is the standard multiplayer modes such as Deathmatch and a couple of unique ones like Breach. I personally didn't really have much of a good time playing the multiplayer since for me there was no real draw of any sort. When I tried to play the unique multiplayer modes such as Breach there were never any servers so I never got to play those. The other modes weren't really anything interesting or fun since they are just your typical deathmatch and capture the flag and since there isn't no character progression system such as the one in Rainbow Six Vegas there is really nothing special about the multiplayer except for the unique abilities you get when you play on either the humans side and the Chimera side.

In the end Resistance Fall of man is a decent first person shooter for the PS3 and should be rented by anyone who likes first person shooters and only bought by those who are up to a extreme challenge and can handle a lot of frustration. I made this review in June 19th, 2009 so there a lot of great titles out for the PS3 and this one certainly isn't one of them, but MGS4 Guns of the Patriots is and Killzone 2 as well. So check those titles out first before even looking at this game which happens to the hardest one ever created.
