Missed the title at launch & wondering if I should miss its sequel(s), too. Great story, terrible, TERRIBLE graphics
First and foremost, I actually really love the story. Cliche yet original in its own way, with a fine narration done. It is interesting and told reasonably well. In addition, the framerate clips along nicely. It runs smooth and fast, with near eye-bleeding speed when played in HD. No visual pop-ins at all.
People have talked about the ingenuity in the level designs, but I actually found them to feel very last generation. Geometry of the structures, simplicity in the number of items on screen, the linear way in which you move from place to place... it all seems very dated.
Oh, and the graphics are TERRIBLE. I know this is an older game, but Insomniac should have put better textures in this game. Well, they should have put ANY textures in this game.
Put the title next to Call of Duty 2 or Halo 3, both titles which were released around the same time, and Resistance fails in comparison. In HD it just looks like a last-gen game.
I'm... disappointed. I don't know if I want to play the 2nd game. If I do, it would be only to see where the story goes.
My greatest curiosity revolves around the graphics. With so many interesting games out there, a game has to have more than decent gameplay. It has to be the complete package, and Resistance sure ain't it.
Reading reviews that rave about the graphics makes matters worse. I know these reviews are dated, and companies have found ways to get all they can from the current generation of consoles, but these graphics really stink.
Please tell me the graphics are better in Resistance 2. For real this time.
