The Chimera have invaded, but is the fight worth it?

A Sony system generally means that there probably won't be any really good exclusive first person shooters. Microsoft showed the world that it had one amazing exclusive title with the original Halo. But now the PS3 is out and can Sony and Insomniac make a solid shooter title in the form of Resistance Fall of Man. We will just have to see.

The story behind Resistance is that there is virus called the Chimeran virus that has started in Russia and is now spreading throughout Europe. You play as an American soldier Nathan Hale, who is part of a force sent in to help the British. The story is narrated by another character Rachel, who does a good job narrating. The only problem that the story has is that in the beginning it feels really choppy. There is a cut scene, and then a little bit of shooting, then a cut scene shortly after that, then more shooting, and so on. I now the game is trying to explain something's, but every time something happens they have to have a few minute cut scene. But this only happens in the beginning, so the rest of the game has a smoother feel to it.

Now Resistance is a first person shooter and as a first person shooter your will be doing a lot of shooting. The game plays some what like Call of Duty crossed between Unreal Tournament in a sense that you will be running a gunning at the beginning of the game, but towards the end you will need more strategy. This is because the enemy A.I in Resistance is really good. They will charge you and try and flank you. If you gun them down, and they are wounded, they will play dead for a bit and then get up and attack you. The Chimera are smart and there are many different forms of them all with different roles on the battle field. You have normal Hybrids, then you have Steel Heads which have more powerful weapons, then you have spider like Chimera, dog like Chimera, and a bunch of other different types of them.

Resistance has also got an awesome arsenal of weapons. You have your normal assault rifle and shotgun, but then you have some really cool whacky weapons at your side. The Far Eye which is a sniper rifle has the ability to go into this mode that slows down time. The Bulls eye allows you to shoot a target on a certain enemy and all of your shots will follow that enemy. The Auger allows you to shoot through objects and place a shield.
There are a lot of other cool weapons, but I will leave those as a surprise for any one who still hasn't played this game.

If you want to bring a buddy along for the single player, you can do that. The game just throws another character into the game, and I'm not sure if the person player 2 plays as has anything to do with the story. It is a lot like the original Halo, where the game just drops someone in there without any explanation.

Graphically Resistance is nothing impressive. The textures look kind of bland and there are a lot of jagged looking lines. But it is impressive how Insomniac was able to put a lot of screen at once. There is a lot going on in the game at once and the game keeps a good frame rate. But Resistance does look like a current gen game and is not a polished PS2 game.

The sound in Resistance is really good. The alien guns sound great and the voice acting and sounds of battle sound as they should.

Resistance also has a multiplayer which is actually a lot of fun. 40 people can battle in a bunch of different game modes playing either as human or chimera. Humans can run faster and have radar. The chimera have the ability to turn on a feral mode and see where the humans are on the map. The multiplayer is a lot of fun and should keep you busy for a little while.

Overall all, Resistance is a standard shooter that doesn't do much new but is still fun. It tries to be the Halo for the PS3, and for the most part, it is really fun. If you are a fan of first person shooters, then you should give this game a try.
