With so many Resident evil titles, Dead aim shouldn't fit in your collection

User Rating: 5.3 | Resident Evil: Dead Aim PS2
Resident evil has been around for years, from the mansion incident to the streets of Raccoon city, Resident evil has well worn it's territory. Now it's seems as though Capcom has officially ran out of ideas. Resident evil dead aim takes place on a ship owned by Umbrella and our "hero" or more like loser of Dead aim is Bruce. Bruce is a pretty annoying character thanks to his southern accent and goofy dialogue. Resident evil dead aim is a bit different of a Resident evil game mainly because it's a light shooter rather than your typical survival horror title. This is by far no reason to give it a try, due to the fact that the light shooter elements mixed with the classic survival horror that has plauged Resident evil so far creates an experience that no one should play.

As I said, Bruce is the main character of the game, although you'll play as another character too. Fongling, A Chinese government agent is the other character you play as. Both of the character play the same, but no matter what's going on, the dialogue is pretty hammy.

The setting of Resident evi dead aim isn't anything special and it takes place on this ship that is owned by Umbrella. The main villian of this Resident evil title is Morpheus from Resident evil zero. The difference is though, is that Morpheus is far less challenging and scary due to how easy this game is. No matter what kind of monsters or boss fights he throws at you, all the ammo and health you get makes this a game that you could hold down the fire button from start to finish and still have so ammo left over. The puzzles are also very simplisitc, with simple tasks such as getting a key or unlocking a door. There really is no challenge and even me, who can get stumped by survival horror titles quite a bit, found this one to be dead easy.

Resident evil dead aim is a light shooter and it switches between third person and when you bring up your gun, it switches to first person where you move your analog stick and as you do, the curser goes around your screen and you can shoot enemies. It essence, it works, but the controls are pretty clunky, mainly because you can't look around to easy and switching between first and third person can be frustrating when the occasional zombie sneaks up on you, because you can't move while in first person.

On a good note, the story is pretty good. While it doesn't embark new ground, it does deliver well and this is one of the few Resident evil titles that leaves you satisfied at the end. The story does have a few twists, such as the relationship that Finglong and Bruce develop, but nothing to remarkable happens making the Ok story that is one of the few highpoints of Resident evil dead aim not all that great.

Residente evil dead aim can be quite satisfying with it's shooting. The weapons all fire off with a bang and some good physics makes the zombies you face blow back to the wall when a shotgun is fired or the zombies fall back a few feet when an assault rifle is fired. It's not remarkable physics, but it stands out compared to the raw and boring gameplay.

The weapons in Resident evil dead aim are somewhat impressive. You have your standard machine guns, pistols, and shotguns, but you also get a unique assault rifle that isn't found in other Resident evil games. It's something different, but I preferred the shotgun the best, especially since it's the most satisfying.

The graphics in Resident evil dead aim are Ok. I mean there just Ok. The use of lighting is used to great effect, especially since your mainly on a rocking ship, but the zombies all look rubbery and fake. The character models of Bruce, Fongling, and Morpheus are pretty good, but nothing remarkable. The textures don't look that great but overall, the look of Resident evil dead aim is pretty good.

Throughout the game you will read a lot of logs and notes left by people who were on the ship before they turned to zombies. These notes will tell you more about the story and will give some more context to what's going on, but you probably already know what the story is all about, so if Dead aim will be your first Resident evil game, you will be confused more than anything because it's for veteran Resident evil gamers.

Although you do pretty much stay on the boat for most of the game, you also travel to a cave and a secret Umbrella lab later in the game, which will take you a wopping 4 or 5 hours to complete. Although it's extremeley short and is barely even worth a rental let alone a purchase. For light shooter's though, Resident evil dead aim is actually pretty lengthy since most light shooters are even shorter, but for a Resident evil game, thats pretty short. You also don't have a lot of replay value since there's no unlockables and only 3 different difficulties. Even if you pick hard, the game is pretty easy.

Resident evil dead aim's sound department is pretty hammy. From Bruce and his southern accent to FInglong and her fake Chinese voice, you really have to laugh. The zombies also only have about 2 or 3 different moans making them more boring to listen to than anything. The weapon sounds do sound pretty convincing and it's the high point in the sound area. I especially liked how every time you fired off the assault rifle it sounded like a bang.

Resident evil dead aim is a perfect example of mediocre. From the length, difficulty, boring gameplay, and simplistic story, it won't work for most people. Although it can be exciting at times, Resident evil dead aim will just join your pile of Resident evil games that you will never ever play again.
